SZA dives inTo Another Chart topper
SZA’s album, SOS, continues to make major chart moves throughout various metrics– and that’s not limited to Harpsichord’s very own guestimation charts. On the Seasonal Top 30 Pop&B tracks, this publication attempts to guess which songs that balance the fine line of R&B and pop are making statements on social media, streaming, radio, sales, and much more.
For the first annual chart that chronicles the hottest Pop&B songs, “Kill Bill,” her album’s lead single, reigned supreme for the Spring 2023 season. That song received three Grammy nominations on November 10, including Song and Record of the Year, as well as Best R&B Performance. On this chart, “Kill Bill” drops to No. 25 as SZA’s attention has focused on “Snooze,” which rises to the No. 1 spot after placing No. 2 for the Summer 2023 countdown. “Snooze” received a Best R&B Song nomination for the 66th Grammy Awards.
Other Grammy Nominees
Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama” helped the songstress earn seven nominations, including Record of the Year and Best R&B Song. On this chart it appears at No. 2, rising 4 spots from the Summer 2023 tally. Her house ditty, “Alright” sees a rise to No. 22. The track appears on the Best R&B Album nominated, Jaguar II. Monét is also up for Best New Artist at the 66th telecast.
As her breakout hit, “Water” is the Hot Shot debut at No. 4 thanks to its viral success and meteoric rise up charts monitored by Harpsichord. The song is nominated for Best African Music Performance at The Grammys.
Peso Pluma’s Génesis received a sole nod for Best Música Mexicana Album (Including Tejano). Its key track “Lady Gaga” falls from No. 10 to No. 12.
Travis Scott’s Utopia earned the rapper a Best Rap Album nod, and its standout single, “Delresto (Echoes)” debuts at No. 29, giving Beyoncé her fifth overall entry on the Pop&B Tracks chart.
Other Tracks To Watch
Tate McRae’s “Greedy” and Doja Cat’s “Agora Hills” have had strong streaming presence and land at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
Usher’s “Good Good” and Tink’s remix of “Girls Need Love” give Summer Walker two entries on the chart, at No. 8 and No. 19 respectively.
Dua Lipa is about to storm with “Houdini,” her latest single in anticipation of her third studio album. Due to a strong debut to the public on November 9, the song is already at No. 9.
Taylor Swift had a “Cruel Summer” for the Summer tally, as the song peaked at No. 5. It has now dropped to No. 15 thanks to a push for 1989 TV. On Harpsichord’s charts, Taylor Swift has five total entries (including one on the Harpsichord Usage Tastemaker tally). “Slut!” from the vault of 1989 TV debuts at No. 11.
Blasts From The Past
Halloween season will always be kind to Michael Jackson, as “Thriller” rounds out the Top 10. This is also in anticipation for the Thriller 40 documentary which is slated to be released on December 2.
Mariah Carey’s 1994 holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” starts its climb to the top, as Halloween is over and it’s time for Christmas to take over Thanksgiving. The song lands at No. 24. Will it go No. 1 when the Winter 2024 chart is revealed? Stay tuned.
